Bad breath is largely
caused by volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) which
are generated when protein is degenerated by anaerobic
gram negative bacilli.
Bad breath is
affected greatly by oral inflammation, amount of
plaque, amount of saliva secretion, caries, and
inferior dental fillings or prostheses, and is especially
worsened by the coating of the tongue; and medical
diseases such as chronic empyema and inflammation
in the upper respiratory tract can also cause bad
breath. In order to prevent this, oral management
is a necessity to people of the modern world, and
general oral management such as cleaning the tongue
and teeth can reduce 85% of the causes of bad breath.
Statistics show that cleaning the tongue removes
about 75% and cleaning the teeth removes about 25%
of these causes. In other words, since it is difficult
to manage your mouth by cleaning only your teeth,
you should use dental floss and interdental toothbrush
